THE DOGMA OF THE HOLY TRINITY

The Holy Trinity is a mystery. There is only one God. But there are three Divine Persons in One God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God, but there are no three Gods but only one God. The Father is not the same as the Son and the Holy Spirit is neither the Father nor the Son. But here is something also just as mind-boggling, but within our level of understanding: the Sacrament of Marriage. In marriage the husband and wife becomes one flesh. The husband is distinct from the wife, but they are one flesh. As Jesus said:
“Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Gen 19:4-6)
